We do not subscribe to the philosophy that if students
are placed in a class and dormitory where English is the common language,
they will automatically pick it up, for a variety of reasons. Language
is taught, not caught. “Research shows that children take up
to two years to develop basic interpersonal skills, BUT it takes from
five to seven years to acquire the full range of inter-personal skills
of IGCSE” ( Assessing the Needs of Bi-lingual Pupils. D. Hall).
Students work on a range of language adequate for communication.
They follow the Cambridge English in Schools (CES) programme where
all topics are related to the English National Curriculum
|
| |
Programme includes: |
| Std. 7 |
The students in Std 7 study from CES Book 1.
The language focus is on the use of present simple, present continuous
and past simple tenses with work on countable and uncountable nouns.
Topics in Std 7 are linked with science, social studies, geography and
music.
Students in Std 7 work towards the Junior English Test (JET) level 3
exams.

| |
Junior English Test Level Three
This is equivalent to the Cambridge Flyers (see Junior School page).
The students should be able to use enough language to survive in
a foreign country. It focuses on simple questions and instructions
and uses a limited range of language for short communication and
practical need. This test is suitable for children between 11-12
years.
Alternatively they may sit for the Cambridge Key English Test
(K.E.T.). This provides an early learning objective; it is the
first step towards more advanced Cambridge ESL examinations.
|
| Std. 8 |
Students work on a range of language adequate for communication. They
follow the Cambridge English in Schools (CES) programme studying from Book
2.

to) and past continuous tense with work on imperatives.

and history.
Students in Std 8 work towards the Junior English Test (JET) level
4 exams.

Junior English Test Level Four

situations that require a predictable use of language. They should be
able to ask questions for clarification and write a straightforward letter
and understand parts of a discussion on predictable matters.
Alternatively they may sit for the Cambridge Preliminary English Test
(P.E.T.).
