Clubs' programme
|
At Hebron there is a wealth of extra-curricular (co-curricular) activity. On any given day in the week there will be informal meetings for music, sport, Christian activities, drama, trek planning, first aid, etc. However, for 6 weeks in Term 2 (from February to April) there is a formal Clubs’ programme on a Thursday afternoon lasting 2 hours or more. All staff help with these Clubs but many are led by Students with some staff oversight. There are usually more than 40 Clubs from which to choose! Many of the Clubs are outdoor ones. Some are designed to enable students to learn new sports – such as squash, golf, table-tennis, cricket, rugby or softball. Others are more adventurous, such as canoeing, abseiling, climbing, sailing and cycling. There is even a personal survival course! Yet more involve trips as part of the community service outreach to orphanages, schools and training centres. Several Clubs involve creative design: jewellery making, candle making, model making, woodwork, metalwork, painting and photography. In 2006 a new Adventure Playground was designed, financed and built by the Student Council. Some Clubs require acting and drama skills whilst others involve aerobics, dance and gymnastics. A number of Clubs are relatively sedentary and involve playing board games, debating, cooking, computing and preparing the school magazine, ‘Hebron Highlights’. Overall, these Clubs are
designed to challenge interest and inspire! During the Parents’ Week in April displays of photos and items
inform the parents and visitors of what has been achieved and the
drama/dance/musical Clubs usually put on an evening of entertainment
such as ‘A week in the life of Hebron’ seen in 2006. |
