Student Council

The Student Council is an annually elected body representing students from Standards 7 to 13. Each class has two elected representatives, usually a boy and a girl, and from this number the Student Council Executive is elected. The ‘Exec.’ organises two major events every year, one in each term, and these have a theme and a purpose. In addition the ‘Exec.’ oversees the School Canteen and the Student Lounge (complete with pool table, TV and table football). On a regular basis the ‘Exec.’ meets with staff members and the Principal as part of the Student / Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC). It’s through this committee that the views of students can be expressed, considered and redressed. Recently the SSLC reviewed the School Music Policy.

Each year the Student Council chooses a project and/or a charity to promote. Recent projects have been as follows:

2000-1

Earthquake relief: raising funds for EFICOR and the village of Nagavaladia in Gujarat and sponsoring two teams of staff and students to take part in rubble clearing, rebuilding and primary school work.

2001-2

A cleaner environment: sponsoring new bins in Garden Road in Ooty, planting saplings in the school grounds and producing non-plastic bags.

2002-3

Water: helping construct dams to improve our ground water supplies and facilitating water harvesting projects.

2003-4

Mizpah Home: raising funds (and awareness) for this local orphanage.

2004-5 CMS, Coonoor: raising funds for this orphanage / training centre(the home of ‘Old Hebron’); tsunami relief: working with CMS to provide a new fishing boat and to rebuild shattered homes on the south coast of Tamil Nadu.
2005-6 Raised money for computers for a local CSI School; Supported Orissa projects
2006-7

Supported the Orissa Community projects

In November 2003 the SC organised an evening event with a musical and colour theme (Psykadelia) with the purpose of raising funds for Mizpah Home and enabling budding musical talent to be displayed. Some 1,750 flowers were ordered for the occasion, special cakes baked, food cooked, soft drink punches mixed and sweets concocted. It was a tremendous community occasion (see photographs).
