Drama week brings students, staff and parents together; the joy
of seeing classes unite, parents laugh and cry at their children’s
performances and the thrill of the healthy competition…unity. Many
things we undertake at Hebron have an edge of rivalry to them, but
in all we must remember it is not the winning that counts but the
taking part.
Last month’s hockey tournament in Karur [Hebron U19 Girls were
selected to play as the Nilgiris side in a state-wide competition,
we were placed second] taught me the importance of accepting defeat,
as well as victory, taking it in your stride.
When you compete in anything, whether it be drama, sport or music
the important thing is to enjoy it and have fun… even if you have
to wear heels!
Alix Reid
The fish and chips amouldered on the floor,
'Twas the fish and chips which no-one wanted anymore.
On it's tail there grew a dark green mould
The colour of the money for which it was sold.
A duck waddled past and turned it's beak
Towards the spot where the fish had lain all week.
It sniffed the air, inhaled the fumes,
Unwittingly it sealed its doom.
It toppled to the floor and breathed it last,
Before it's eyes its life flashed past.
It let out a sigh- its very last breath
Before it met the one called Death.
But the fish and chips amouldered, the same way as before,
Oblivious to the rotting duck beside it on the floor.
So the fish and chips amouldered for a day, a month, a year,
And whenever a duck waddled past that spot, it felt a twinge of
fear.

Standard 7
This year's drama festival was kick started by the groovy std. 7
musical, 'Tamblerlain the mad hen'! Set in London, by the river
Thames the play brought to light the amazing musical talent of the
class as a whole. The star of the play, Samuel Ganta played the
eccentric part of the crazy talking chicken, 'Tamberlain'. One of
the favorites was the 'pet computer' played by Minal. The play took
off very well and captured the audience. It's style and charisma was
very affective. In all, 'Tamberlain the mad hen' was a fine class
performance thanks to the effort of the whole cast, not forgetting
the director, Mrs. Read. Sure to give the 2 other std. 9 plays stiff
competition, we wish them the best of luck.

Standard 9A presents Kes, the story of a young boy names Billy
Casper, who is ousted by children and teachers of his school, and
family alike. Condemned by all, he finds friendship in a hawk, which
he names Kes. The acting and the accents put on the by the cast was
outstanding and henceforth was sustained throughout the play.
Jonathan Reid portrays an excellent Billy Casper. Characters were
played to a tee. The enthusiasm of the cast was shown in the play.
The direction of the play was truly outstanding. A coherent and
entertaining play, well worth a watch!

Standard 9 alpha
Std 9 alpha presented us with a pleasant production, taking us
back to he Roman era, where we get a glimpse of Christian
persecution. Androcles played an important role in taming a lion, as
well as his wife! ‘Hail Caesar Will’ the crowds cheer, as
he flees from the lions wrath, not having his dear Sir Peter, who’s
figure is constantly being observed by lady Esther. A good
performance combining humour, wit and not leaving out the Christian
emphasis. A job well done!

Standard 11 A
This presentation was a most impressive and entertaining comedy,
as all the actors and actresses put all their effort into their
roles and literally threw themselves into the play. Meghan Bertie
was most convincing as the insane mother come playwright. Michael
Read was the partially lame grandfather playing along side Vinnu,
the only normal character who had the difficult task of juggling her
abnormal family while entertaining her posh and wealthy lover’s
family, portrayed by Keturah, Pradeep and Annand as the boyfriend.
Ananda and Esther injected their own flavour with their mastering
of Russian. Every stagehand was well prepared, it was not a
performance to miss.
As Standard 11A prepare for their final grand performance on
Wednesday, we wish them the best of luck .

Standard 11 alpha presented us with a most entertaining and
enjoyable production on the second night of Drama week. Sporting
Jamie’s trendy hair, Pradeep’s love of cucumber sandwiches, Lucy’s
ability to ACT innocent and Naomi’s amazing flirting skills
this was set to be a top-class play.
With a set of sincere, down-to-earth, dedicated
characters, this play was sure to touch our utmost beings, and
clearly portrayed to us the IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.
Well done to al the cast and their directors Mr. Jamie and Miss
Jo – all the best for Wednesday night.

"What can we say?" …that
hasn’t already been said, I mean. The Std 13 drama this year had
something else. Namely, choreography like Hebron has never seen
before. Of course, dancing is strictly forbidden, but then, they
weren’t really dancing, they were just ‘moving to music’. And
gosh did they move! A marvelous piece of work by the producer and
choreographers, coupled with the tremendous ability and great effort
put in by all the cast brought about this dazzling zenith of
dramatic performance – a unique first for Hebron that did full
justice to the genius of the playwright, in a modern, glitzy sort of
way. Oh, and Puck, kindly stay away from our rooms at night…
